In Fall 2024, I entered my graduate studies in Human-Computer Interaction and Design at the University of California, Irvine. For our final project our class Design and Prototype, our goal was to envision and reimagine an existing transit space or mobility hub in North America that addresses issues and needs of its riders and employees through smart transit applications.

I chose the UC San Diego Central Campus trolley station, a light rail station in San Diego, CA that is one of the busiest in all of the United States.  Through rider and employee interviews, field notes and observations, and various user needs analysis methods (such as affinity diagramming, work models, and annotated transcripts), I developed concepts for: updated digital signage, interactive map kiosks, and a new conceptual multi-modal transit tracking feature for San Diego's existing transit ticketing app.

My goal with re-designing this space to utilize these tools I conceptualized and prototype was to address the needs of park-and-ride and multi-modal transit users, due to the nature of the UC San Diego Blue Line having a larger portion of riders who rely on other forms of transit when using the trolley.
